Basketball match, 11 am on Friday 30th December 2022 and Chairman’s update
Events
I am writing to update you on several things pertaining to the WHOBA and, to start with, I have a few dates for your diaries:
The annual basketball match will take place on Friday 30th December at 11.00 am. We’re planning to provide refreshments this year to tempt more of you out of bed and on to the courts. A perfect way to run off some of those Christmas calories! We’re also experimenting with a new day and time and would welcome any feedback in this regard.
Looking ahead, please pencil in Sunday 26th March 2023 for the football match and Sunday 9th July 2023 for the cricket.
Old Boys of any age and current Year 6 boys are all welcome to attend either in a playing or spectating capacity.
Our biggest event this year will be on Thursday 15th June 2023, when the Headmaster, Alistair Lyttle (1984) will be opening the school to WHOBA members who left the school between 1975 and 1985. There will be a buffet lunch and the chance to meet other Old Boys, revisit the school and see the magnificent buildings such as Duce Hall and the Centenary Building that have been added to the site since you left. In addition, you will be able to view an art exhibition of the pupils’ work and be treated to a short recital of music from a couple of pupils. Most importantly, I hope it will help reconnect members to the school. The school will open from 11.30am and the event should be over by 2.30pm. Changes to the School Magazine
I would also like to draw you attention to a planned change in the format of this year’s school magazine. Traditionally, we combine the current school magazine with Old Boys’ News. This year, we are trying something new to tie in with the rebranding of the school which took place last academic year. We hope you have had a chance to explore this new website, which has a dedicated WHOBA section containing updated news and information. We work hard to ensure this is kept up to date and are constantly adding to the pages with the information we find in the archives. The website in many ways supersedes the information in the magazine and we would like to encourage you to help us to keep this as up to date as possible by sending us information about what you have all been up to and your recollections about your time at West House.
We realise that many of you may still like to receive a magazine copy of WHOBA news so this year, we will still have print copies available and if you would like to receive one then please email:
We will also produce a PDF version that will be available on the website.
We hope that this new direction for the WHOBA magazine heralds a new era for the WHOBA. The website is of course a more cost effective and environmentally friendly way of sharing news and has the advantage of being updated on a weekly basis.
