A group of Year 6 boys enjoyed a special musical experience this week when they were invited to attend the annual Margaret Davies Memorial Recital at King Edward’s School.
The lunchtime concert, held in the impressive Ruddock Hall, showcased the talents of some of the schools’ accomplished young musicians. For West House, however, it was also a particularly proud occasion, with three former West House pupils taking to the stage.
Ming, now a member of the Sixth Form at King Edward’s School, performed Brahms’ Rhapsody in B minor, Op. 79 No. 1. 15-year-old Khai and 16-year-old Yilin, also former West House pupils, performed as part of the recital, with Yilin playing Shostakovich’s Piano Trio No. 2 in E minor, Op. 67.
It was a wonderful opportunity for our boys to see three familiar faces from their own school performing at such a high level in the Ruddock Hall. Their performances provided a lovely reminder of the musical opportunities and experiences that can continue to develop long after leaving West House.
The West House connection was made even more special by the presence of Kai, Ming’s younger brother and En, Khai’s younger brother, who also attended the recital. It was particularly lovely for them to be there to support their older brothers.
The boys thoroughly enjoyed the recital and were a credit to West House. Experiences such as this give our pupils the chance to broaden their horizons, enjoy live music and performance, and be inspired by the achievements of those who have gone before them.
We are delighted to see Ming, Khai and Yilin continuing to flourish musically.
