West House is celebrating the remarkable achievements of former pupil Jeremy Maclean, who recently competed at the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship in Nice, France.
Jeremy, who left West House in 2016, lined up alongside some of the world’s leading professional triathletes for the prestigious championship on 12 September. The 21-year-old completed the gruelling 70.3-mile course in an impressive 4 hours 17 minutes 20 seconds, finishing 44th in the professional men’s field.
The Nice World Championship was the latest milestone in what has been an extraordinary year for Jeremy. In May, he claimed his first professional IRONMAN 70.3 victory at Chattanooga, producing a breakthrough performance against a highly experienced field. The win secured his qualification for the World Championship in Nice.
The IRONMAN 70.3 challenge combines a 1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike ride and 13.1-mile run, making Jeremy’s achievement all the more impressive.
Jeremy discovered triathlon as a teenager and has since dedicated himself to the sport, moving to the United States in 2023 on a sports scholarship at Queens University of Charlotte. He combines his studies with an extraordinary training schedule and has progressed rapidly onto the professional circuit.
His journey has also retained strong Birmingham connections. Jeremy has previously credited local clubs, including Solihull Cycling Club and Birmingham Running, Athletics and Triathlon Club, with helping him develop as an athlete.
