Letter from Chairman March 2023
Dear West House Old Boy,
I hope this letter finds you well.
I wanted to make contact following our new look old boy magazine, which I hope you have now had the chance to download from the old boys’ section of our website at www.westhouseprep.com
We do have some paper copies available and I know that some of you have been in touch and hopefully duly received your copy. If you would like a paper copy, then please do email whoba@westhouseprep.com
As I explained in previous correspondence, the move to the digital magazine is driven by several factors that included a desire to be a little greener, limit the ever-increasing cost of postage and most importantly to collaborate more closely with the school’s new website.
The school has invested extensively in the website and the WHOBA has a new section within the website.
The strength of the WHOBA and the new look website is dependent on our members keeping us up to date on your news. If you do have any news that you would like to share with other old boys, please do drop us a line to whoba@westhouseprep.com. We want to hear about GCSE results, A Levels, IB’s, University offers, first jobs, last jobs, births, deaths, marriages and everything in between. We plan to update the WHOBA section of the website regularly but we need content.
We will be using social media and the website to keep everyone updated about forthcoming events and hopefully keep better connected with each other.
Please could we ask you to email us with your updated email address so that we can be confident future emails go to all members. whoba@westhouseprep.com
I have a few up-coming events that I’d like to inform you about.
Firstly, it is the AGM meeting on Wednesday 22nd March 2023 at 7:30 pm. The association and committee have over the recent years benefitted from the ideas of those that have taken part in the Zoom event. Whilst we appreciate that a Zoom meeting is not as sociable as meeting face to face, it does open the AGM to all those across the country and outside the Edgbaston bubble. To take part in the AGM please email me on jeremy.thornton@biddleandwebb.com by Friday 17th March.
On Sunday 26th March, it is the Old Boys’ Football match which will take place at 2.00pm on Richmond Hill. Players should just turn up and all are welcome.
The annual Cricket match will take place on Sunday 9th July at 1:30 pm on Richmond Hill, again please just turn up. All welcome.
Finally, our biggest event of the year is our Old Boys Lunch on Thursday 15th June, 2023 at 11:30am – 2:30 pm. The Headmaster, Alistair Lyttle (1984) will be opening the school to WHOBA members who left the school between 1975 and 1985. There will be a buffet lunch and a chance to meet other old boys, revisit the school and see the magnificent buildings such as Duce Hall and the Centenary Building that have been added to the site since you left. In addition, you will be able to view an art exhibition of the pupils’ work and be treated to a short recital of music from a couple of pupils. Most importantly, I hope it will help reconnect members to the school.
If you would like to attend the lunch, please email whoba@westhouseprep.com
I look forward to reconnecting with as many of you as possible at the above events.
Please do keep in touch.
Best wishes
Jeremy Thornton
Chairman WHOBA.
