Captain Tamu M scored twice as West House had a comprehensive victory against Chad Vale in the U11 HDFA Cup this week.

Immediately after Chad Vale scored first, WHS responded. Space had grown during the early stages of the match in the middle of the box and following a phenomenal corner taken by Harry R, which resembled a corner from David Beckham in his prime, Saran reached in and struck the ball on the volley into the back of the net to level the game. The sound made off the boot could have even been heard far and wide as the ball smashed the back of the net to tie WHS at that moment and lift their heads for the rest of the game.

Goalkeeper, Mika R was unstoppable today with save after save, kick after kick and walked off the pitch as if he was painted by mud. An amazing player of Chad Vale, who put up an outstanding performance, had a clear 1v1 with Mika R. With Mika’s reflexes imitating Donnarumma’s, the ball was flying bottom bins before a huge dive from Mika kept us in the game early on.

Sebastian was an eagle as he sprinted rapidly across the pitch pressing their players time and time again showing determination to obtain the ball. When everyone saw him after the game they were confused if he threw a bucket of water on himself or if it was just sweat and Seb deserved his goal.

The team went on to win the fixture 5-2. Everyone in this match played brilliantly but the spark of the team and Player of the Match was Uche A for he blocked many shots in the first half and he stood tall like the Great Wall of China! Tackle after tackle, block after block we had a new Van Dijk but better.

Post match, Harry R said, “It was a great feeling winning 5-2. I think we fought back really well after a very even 2-2 first half” Rohan S, the youngest player in team, commented “I feel very happy even though I am young it doesn’t mean I don’t put the work in. I work hard and believe in myself and it paid off in the match.”

Goal of the game was Tamu M who drove through the defence and let out a rocket in the bottom bins from a really tight angle. He led our team with skill and flair and captained us incredibly throughout the match. A special mention goes to Oliver.W who put West House in a slightly more comfortable zone when he slotted in our 3rd goal – everybody breathed such a huge sigh of relief!

Thinking ahead to our next fixture in the cup, we can definitely improve on our consistency in the 1st and 2nd halves. At the top of the pitch, we  will work on getting the ball whilst pressing the opposition’s defenders. During the game, the goalkeeper only passed the ball to their RB who ran past us in the 1st half. However, in the 2nd half WHS stood their ground and he ran past us a less amount of times. Football can be played in two very different halves and we want to make sure we play good football in both halves in the next round!

Saran S – U11 Football

West House welcomed Norfolk House to Richmond Hill Road for a football fixture. In the first half, West House played really well showing great attacking play with many good runs made by Aydin and Alfie. There was lots of pace shown by the team and the goals were shared between everyone playing. Adam, Dharam and Alfie all got hat-tricks and it was a very good win for West House. To improve, the team can pass more before scoring.

Aydin L – A Team Captain

In the B Team, Raihan scored his first hat-trick for West House and we had a very good performance against Norfolk House. Ibrahim’s crossing was fantastic and he definitely deserved Player of the Match. The best moment was when Ibrahim crossed the ball into Paras, Paras played it through to Ezra and then Ezra scored a brilliant goal. I interviewed Rui who said, “I really enjoyed getting two assists” and Raihan said, “Scoring my first hat-trick for West House was the best feeling ever!” I think the team can improve on communicating during the game. The final score was 12-1.

Yaqub T – B Team Captain

West House faced Norfolk House at Richmond Hill Road for the first time this season. Highlights of the game include the unexpected goalkeeper Leo pulling of a fantastic save to keep West House in the game and Ibrahim laying a beautiful ball for Zohaib to tap into the bottom corner. Out of goal, Leo was one on one with the keeper and wasn’t at the angle to shoot so he chipped the keeper and Ibrahim was there to slot it home before Yifan played a brilliant pass through to Leo again who accurately shot it in the bottom corner. The final score: 5-1.

Leo and Ibrahim both deserved Player of the Match for both giving fantastic assists and using the width of the pitch really well. Norfolk House voted Dexter as Player of the Match for his all round good play.

Post match, Leo commented, “We could have defended more in the first 10 minutes but we played good after that,” and Teddy said, ‘We were complacent and we played playground football but at half time when Mr Sajjad said to slow things down and play proper football, we played really well’. 

Ahead of the next match, West House could improve on passing and moving more and in defence, not losing the ball when under pressure in our own box.
