West House Shines on the Sports Field

A bumper week of both rugby and football fixtures this week. Read the full reports below for the U8, U10 and U11 matches this week!

Monday 26th February - U10 Rugby v Hallfield

A Team: West House 5 – 8 Hallfield

B Team: West House 8 – 6 Hallfield

C Team: West House 7 – 4 Hallfield

On Monday, it was the second leg of rugby fixtures against Hallfield School for the U10 squad. In the A team, captain Matty showed great leadership as West House demonstrated huge resilience, clever skill and teamwork in both halves of rugby with Thomas (2), Max M (2) and Rui scoring some very well worked tries. There was great distribution of the ball and some fantastic, brave tackling, particularly from the captain, which made it difficult for the opposition to break down. On this occasion, Hallfield found a way to break down this line of defence and played very well in a very tight, well fought contest. Huge credit goes to the A team for their resilience; never wanting to lose hope or give up.

The action from the other matches kept the crowds entertained throughout as two convincing performances over Hallfield saw fantastic wins for the B and C teams. Zarak, Aryanvir and Yuvraaj all read the game well and helped to control the matches from start to finish, playing till the final whistle and ensuring comfortable victories – both the B and C teams completed the double over Hallfield this season!  It was great to see all smiles in the D team fixture, even if the scoreline didn’t reflect the effort of the players. Well done to the U10s!

"We played really well as a team with everyone contributing. The support play was fantastic which didn't allow the opposition defence to structure.

Excellent vision by Eisa who saw Ali- Aoun in space and lobbed the Warwick defence shortly followed by another super pass to Ali- Aoun who was free in space and went onto to beat the keeper again with a well finished goal. West House proved to be too strong for Warwick and continued to find space with Thomas moving up from defence into midfield to score a goal with a well taken shot. Thursday 29th February - U8 Tag Rugby v Hallfield

The U8 squad played their final rugby match of the term on the final day of February against Hallfield School. The A team match was described by Mr Clifford as ‘end to end’ with plenty of well worked tries from both teams. Dazzling Oliver showcased his tremendous handling skills and there was great support play by Arthur – both players combined well for the try of the match! Sam was robust and brave in his tagging skills and credit to the whole team who played right till the final whistle to secure a well deserved draw, finishing 14-14.

Talking of playing to the final whistle, what a tense, thrilling and triumphant performance by the B team.  Led brilliantly by captain Ibraheem, West House were trailing 7-5 at half-time, and every player knew that we had to be the stronger team in the 2nd half and, with that in mind, immediately scored a fantastic try – well done to Elijah! The game continued to be close yet competitive and Yusuf made a huge impact on the game but could there be one last moment of magic? Step up Nathan who ran so positively and unbelievably scored in THE LAST SECOND! Both the boys and parents were leaping with joy on Leap Day 2024 as West House went on to win an exhilarating fixture 12-11. A great advert for the sport!

A huge congratulations to all the C and D team players who gave all their effort in two cracking games where experience was the main focus, as well as the enjoyment of the sport. Well done all!

"The boys demonstrated huge resilience in the B team after trailing at half time to win a fantastic fixture in added time - one to definitely remember!"
