Aston Villa Tournament Finals

Aston Villa Tournament Finals

There were six teams at the finals, representing various schools in the city. Each team had to play each other once, with the top four progressing into the semi-finals.

In our first match against Litton Sutton, we started nervously but grew in confidence as the game progressed.  Goals from E.Iqbal and T.Magwenzi lead us to a 2-0 victory. Our second fixture was against Chandos and a fine performance saw us win by 2-0. Our goals coming from E.Iqbal and R.Dhanda.

Our next game was against St Thomas’s and was an exciting game which saw the game flow one way and then the other. However, our ability shone through and we ended up winning 3-2 with goals from A-A. Daneshyar (2) and E.Iqbal.

The fourth game was against Chad Vale and ended 0-0 with both keepers playing superbly to ensure it finished goalless.

In our final group game against Clifton, we played some of our best football and ran out comfortable 3-0 winners, goals coming from A.Mewar, T.Magwenzi and A-A. Daneshyar.

This meant that after the group stage we finished first and progressed through to the semi-final where we played Chandos.

A confident and dominant start saw us into a 2-0 lead with goals from Daneshyar and Magwenzi before Chandos pulled one back. We then scored a third, from the head of Daneshyar, and looked very comfortable. Unfortunately a couple of mad two minutes saw us concede 2 goals in the latter stages of the game and saw the match finish 3-3 and go to penalties.

The scores were level after three penalties each, we went to sudden death and after a further 4 penalties the match was still tied. Unfortunately, we missed our next penalty and Chandos scored to go through to the final.

Although a disappointing finish to the tournament, the boys can be very proud of themselves as they played really well and were the only team to go unbeaten throughout the day. Penalties can be a lottery and it just wasn’t our day. Well done the team.
