Speech Night & Prize Giving
This year’s Speech Night and Prize Giving took place on Thursday 23rd June and we were delighted to welcome West House Old Boy, Mr Malvind Singh Benning, Port Vale F.C as Guest of Honour.
After a fantastic musical recital from Ryan K, Khai Y and Isaac B, Mr Lyttle took to the stage to the stirring soundtrack of his favourite film, “Dead Poets Society” which he explained was his motivation to become a teacher.
He then delivered his review of the Acadamic Year, which even by West House standards has been remarkable Scholarships and Awards – West House School (westhouseprep.com. He was however keen to stress that the academic is only one small part of what makes West House the school it is.
Mr Lyttle then invited Mal Benning to present this year’s prizes, of which there were many worthy winners.
Malvind then addressed the audience. He spoke about his time at West House and his many fond memories. He advised the Yr 6 boys to look forward and embrace the next stage in their school journey. He also movingly spoke about the importance of resilience, citing his own experience as a professional football player.
The loudest cheer of the night came when he name-checked the positive influence that Mr Denham had on him.
The star of the evening was head boy Gibran Lambert. He spoke clearly, articulately and with much emotion. He thanked all the staff of West House for supporting him and his cohort on their journey through the school and finished with the sentiment that, “there would always be a piece of West House in his heart”.
Not a dry eye in the house.
