U11 A Team versus King Edwards Cricket Match

U12 KES 91/5 (20 overs) – Martin J. 2 Wickets

U11 WHS 92/4 (19.5 overs) – Tom W. 24; Rishi S. 17

WHS beat KES by 6 wickets

With the boys raring to go shortly after their residential trip, we looked good from the start. There were some worries of the match being called off but soon the rain went away.

Rishi S and Tom W opened the bowling with the some strong overs but the KES openers looked very strong. Kyle I was behind the stumps.

But as soon as Martin J and Hashim W got brought back into the attack, they were lethal. Martin J got their opener with a good swinging ball. That over was a wicket maiden. Despite Hashim W making a bad start to his over, he followed it up with a wicket.

This was when a partnership started to form between one of old boys, Ravi V and another KES batter. That was when Ahmed D, one of our two spinners, was brought into the attack. He broke the partnership with a wrong-un delivery, one of six balls in his wicket maiden.

After a few quiet overs, KES started to hit some good shots, into gaps for four runs. But on the last over, Rishi S cleaned up Ravi V with a perfect yorker. KES ended on 91/5.

Then after a tea break we went out to bat. Kyle 1 an Rishi S opened the innings but unfortunately, Kyle I got out on the first ball of the innings!

However that did give way to a strong partnership with Rishi S’s bat clashed with his stumps. In came Martin J. He started off with  couple of decent shots just before Tom W was undone with a very low bouncing ball. This was a key wicket.

Next in was Ahmend D who had the job along with Martin J to get over 20 runs and guide WHS to victory. The runs did flurry but then unfortunately Martin J got out to a similar delivery as Tom W.

So it was up to Ahmed D and Hashim W to hit 8 runs of 12 balls. After a tense penultimate over, it had come down to this; one over. 5 needed. First ball; wide. A free run. Ball re-bowled; that was a dot ball. Then, there was a two off the next. Then followed a dot ball and it came down to this. 2 runs needed off 2 balls………

That was the task Ahmed D had to face and he did it. Off the penultimate ball, we had won the game by the skin of our teeth! A superb win for WHS.
