Basketball Match December 2022

Twenty four old boys got themselves out of bed and enthusiastically turned up for the annual West House basketball tournament. Their first challenge upon arrival was to try and remember which year they left the school. This seemingly simple question caused much scratching of heads and counting on fingers.

It was a great span of year groups in attendance, from 1985 – 2022 and there was even a special appearance by former Headmaster, Kim Duce (1975-2004).

With so many players we were able to form three teams and Mr Lyttle demonstrated good management skills by ensuring there was a good span of “old old boys” and  “young old boys” in each team.

Daniel Blackledge (2013) had bravely volunteered to ref the tournament and has spent the previous evening genning up on the rules. Thank you, Daniel!

It was a fantastic morning and whilst the Blue and Green teams put in a good effort the clear winners were the Red team, with stand out play by Yan Belling (2014) and Lawrence Alexander (2022).

The morning ended with WHOBA chairman, Jeremy Thornton thanking attendees and urging old boys to keep in touch and to let us know what you are up to, be that GCSEs, university, first jobs, travel plans, retirement, births, marriages and anything in between.
