Old Boys’ Cricket Match 2026

A near-perfect day for cricket greeted more than 20 Old Boys who arrived at Richmond Hill at 1.00pm on Sunday 5th July for this year’s WHOBA Cricket Match. As more players joined throughout the afternoon, the final turnout allowed for two evenly matched teams of 14 to take to the field.

It was particularly pleasing to see not only such an impressive turnout but also a wonderful spread of year groups represented. Former pupils spanning generations returned to West House, from one of our earliest Old Boys, who left in 1990, through to this year’s leavers – a fantastic reflection of the strength of the West House community.

Team captains Emin and Andrew had an excellent pool of players to choose from, setting the stage for a highly competitive and thoroughly enjoyable match.

The game itself was played in great spirit and featured some outstanding cricket, including excellent fielding, superb catches in the deep, disciplined bowling and a number of fine shots around the ground from both sides.

Batting first, Emin’s team posted an impressive 166 from their 20 overs. The reply began steadily, and despite a determined chase, the second team remained just behind the required rate throughout, eventually finishing just over 30 runs short.

More important than the result was the opportunity for Old Boys of all ages to come together, renew friendships and continue a much-valued West House tradition. It was a fantastic afternoon of cricket and camaraderie.
