New Creative and Active Learning Programme
This term, pupils in Years 3–6 are embarking on our new Creative and Active Learning (CAL) programme – an exciting addition to the Prep Department curriculum designed to inspire curiosity, creativity and a love of learning beyond the traditional classroom.
CAL gives pupils the opportunity to explore subjects and activities that they might not otherwise encounter during the school week. Working in small groups, pupils will rotate through a variety of activities throughout the term, developing new skills, discovering new interests and enjoying the chance to learn in different ways.
The programme brings together the expertise of our talented West House staff, alongside a small number of external specialists, giving pupils access to specialist knowledge across a wonderfully diverse range of subjects.
Speaking about the new initiative, Headmaster, Mr Lyttle said:
“At a time when there continues to be a significant focus on academic rigour, we believe that CAL will provide the boys with a fantastic end to a hard-working week and develop their knowledge and skills in otherwise untapped areas.
“I am certain that your son will tell you all about it!”
And there is certainly plenty for the boys to get excited about!
Our Year 6 pupils will be taking part in Squash Squad, Artefact Adventures, Classics Club and Numbers in Sport, while Year 5 pupils can look forward to Radio West House, Dancing Dynamos, Mindful Minds and The Bake Off.
For Year 4, activities include Mandarin Masters, Creative Construction and Stage Stars, while our Year 3 pupils will be exploring their creativity through Mind Masters Quiz Club, Drama & Dance through the Decades and Weaving Wonders.
Creative Construction got off to a great start with plenty of opportunities to design, construct and experiment, LEGO provides a fantastic way for children to develop their creativity, problem-solving and collaborative skills while having fun.
CAL offers something for everyone. More importantly, it provides pupils with opportunities to be curious, try something new, work together and develop skills beyond the traditional curriculum.
We can’t wait to see our pupils getting stuck into their Friday afternoon adventures and discovering new passions along the way.
