West House Inspection Report 2026

Following the recent visit by the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI), West House School has been judged to have met the rigorous standards in all areas.  In rare cases (reported to be approximately 10%), schools are awarded the accolade of having a ‘significant strength’ and West House is celebrating such recognition in its promotion of  ‘The West House Way’. Inspectors commented that, “Leaders’ systematic implementation of ‘The West House Way’ across all aspects of school life is a significant strength of the school.” They went on to highlight the ‘positive relationships, kindness towards each other and confidence in their learning and responsibilities’.

Delighted Headmaster, Alistair Lyttle, is quick to identify the reason for the school’s continued success. “It’s great to learn that the ISI has identified what we see embedded throughout the school. While academics lies at the heart of what we do, along with the focus on sport, music, drama, art and Forest School, it is the culture of the school that provides its distinctive feature. All of this can only be delivered by an experienced and dedicated team of professionals working in close partnership with very loyal parents.”

Further observations articulated within the reports for the school and nursery include:

‘Leaders have established a robust safeguarding culture.’

‘Leaders successfully articulate and deliver the school’s aims and ethos embodied in ‘The West House Way’. As a result, pupils develop high levels of self-knowledge, self-esteem and self-confidence.’

‘Leaders promote a culture of kindness, respect and inclusion throughout the school community.’

‘Pupils show a clear understanding of right from wrong and make thoughtful choices about their behaviour.’

‘Teaching motivates pupils so that they show enthusiasm and interest in their learning and apply intellectual, physical and creative effort to their work.’

‘Leaders and teachers meet the needs of pupils with higher prior attainment through setting in English and mathematics, adapted tasks in lessons and extension opportunities that provide additional stretch and challenge, such as independent research projects for the science fair.’

‘Pupils participate in a wide range of sports, with opportunities for all to compete in teams according to ability. Teaching supports the development of resilience and positive attitudes reinforced through praise and awards.’
