We Are Family: Staff Profiles

 I am a teacher in Reception. My speciality is EYFS and Physical Education.

 I don’t think I can pick one favourite thing about teaching at West House. There are so many brilliant qualities to the school. With that being said I love having a small class size where I feel I can really get to know and nurture the boys at such a pivotal and early stage of their education. I can structure the day and learning to meet the needs of every individual in my class. The fact it’s all boys means I further have the amazing opportunity to tailor learning to suit the boys rate of development and interests. As a teacher I can therefore ensure the love, magic and passion of learning is maximised daily which is the best way to feel as a Reception teacher. I also love working alongside Mrs Joseph and Mrs Allen and feel we always spark off each other which creates the best environment and atmosphere.

Before West House, I have had lots of amazing opportunities such as working in various Nursery settings, travelling to America to partake in Camp America and working as both a Reception and Year 1 Class Teacher in a school in Wolverhampton.

My hidden talent and something most people don’t know is that I have raced cars since the age of 12. I have an old school Mini in a racing league called Autograss. We race on an oval dirt track in a fields across many locations in the UK. In 2015 I became the Ladies Class 1 Champion which meant I was the top driver in the UK within that year.

 As a massive advocate for children’s literature I find it really hard to select a favourite book. My current favourite is ‘I Want My Hat Back’ by Jon Klassen. It’s quirky, hilarious and is a great read-aloud tale that always grabs the children’s attention when I read it. It has sly illustrations the captives the boys and is absolutely brimming with visual humour. The boys always feel like they are in on the story’s joke and gets them laughing hysterically. An absolute favourite for sparking the love of reading in Reception.
