We Are Family: West House Staff Profiles

At West House School and Nursery, our community is built on strong connections, shared values, and a warm, family-friendly atmosphere. In our We Are Family series, we’re proud to introduce the incredible staff who make our school such a special place. From their passion for education to the personal touches they bring to our community, each profile highlights the people at the heart of West House. Welcome to our family!

We are kick-starting our staff profile feature with Mr Abbey who agreed to answer a few questions.

What is your favourite thing about teaching at West House?

My favourite thing about teaching at West House is hearing boys enjoy their lessons!

What form do you teach and do you have a teaching speciality?
I teach 3A but I also teach Science for Year 3, 4, and 5 (I’d teach year 6 if I had any more time in my timetable!). I also teach Forest School sessions. No teaching speciality – but I wouldn’t be very good at all at teaching music!

Where were you before West House?

I was at a Catholic School called St. Patrick’s  for 7-8 years. I have taught in Year 1 and Year 3 over the years. I loved it but wanted a change!

Do you have any hidden talents?
No hidden talents although  I do keep trying to break the world record for the amount of cups of tea one man can have in a day. I have also performed a 5-minute stand-up set at the Glee Club for charity.
What is your favourite book?

I’m not sure what my favourite (children’s) book is – there’s something good about all of them…! Oliver and the Seawigs, The Gruffalo, The Wild Robot, The Iron Man, The Boy at the Back of the Class…
