Tristan Excels In National Language Quiz
We are very proud of Tristan in Year 5 who made it into the live final of the uTalk language quiz.
Year 5 boys have been taking part in the UTalk language programme this year. Students learn by playing language games on their devices, scoring points and competing for ranking on an online leader board.
Tristan qualified for entrance into the uTalk Languages Games Final 2024! While participants chose the language they learned in the first two rounds and compete in that language, in the last round, a language is chosen by the uTalk team so that everyone can demonstrate their language skills in the same language.
The language chosen this time was Jèrriais!
Jèrriais, or Jersey French, has been spoken in Jersey, the largest of the Channel Islands, for more than 1,000 years. It is descended from the Norman language, which originated in northern France. Although it was once Jersey’s main language, the number of native speakers began to decline in the 19th century and it is now considered to be endangered.
Tristan did very well in a challenging and highly competitive final.
Mrs E Parker (Head of MFL)
He was pipped at the post by two EHS girls, so we were glad that our sister school took the winning crown.
We understand that Tristan then hot-footed it to the cricket match, just in time to bat!
