House Music Competitions

Junior House 

The annual house music competitions took place last week with the usual anticipation and excitement.

The competition opened with each house performing their own version of the Spring March, on their recorders. All versions sounded very impressive with only one point difference when the scores were given out, by visiting adjudicator, Martin Monks.

The soloists then took to the stage. Instruments included guitars, clarinets, saxophones, pianos, flutes, violins, cellos and bassoons. An impressive range considering that these performers were only in years 3 and 4.

Each half of the programme finished with a rousing singing session, again each house offering up their own interpretation of the same songs.

The results were extremely close but the Spartans came first, closely followed by the Persians and slightly behind them, the Trojans.

All in all a brilliant afternoon’s entertainment that will have enhanced the performance skills of all those that took part, which was of course everyone.

Senior House

It was then the turn of years 5 and 6 who by now, are old hands at this. They opened the competition with their orchestral versions of World In Union. Each house performed with gusto and we could tell we were in for a great afternoon.

The senior boys also had an impressive range of instruments that showcased their abilities. The drum kits and electric guitars were also part of the mix for the senior boys. In addition, for the first time ever, we had a DJ set by Yuvraaj, which really got the crowd going and put a huge smile on the face of Mr Monks.

It was the Persians that took the crown this year, with the Trojans trailing behind by just one point, the Spartans came in last but the real winner of the afternoon was music!
