‘Oliver Twist’ is perhaps the most well-known and popular of all of Charles Dickens’ novels, full of iconic moments and memorable characters. It was ideal for an adapted stage and screen version for our current Year 6 cohort. As such, it has been performed many, many times, with Lionel Bart’s musical ‘Oliver!’ perhaps the most celebrated.
In ‘Oliver With A Twist’, the tale retained its wonderful characters and exciting storyline, but there were added twists throughout the performance to make it feel fresh, fun and wholly original. A dedicated group of Year 6 boys helped to lead the creative writing process in adding new characters to cater for the larger cast. A live band led by Mr Lawrence drove the rhythm of the plot line. bringing the story to life with music that echoed every twist and emotion.
In a highlight of the Year 6 calendar, ‘Oliver With A Twist’ was a memorable moment and one that the boys should not forget in many years to come. The efforts and attainment of all the cast contributed to a professional performance and we cannot thank Ms Green for her continued dedication to the teaching of Drama here at West House School! Two terrific performances, boys! Well done!
