Speech Night and Prize Giving 2023

Oh what a night! It was time to say a formal farewell to our current Year 6 before they head off to their new schools in September. It was also a chance to celebrate they boys’ achievements and hand out prizes for all their various endeavours.

The evening started in a civilized fashion, with drinks and canapes served on the Head Master’s Lawn. We then adjourned to Duce Hall for the the formal part of the evening. Prabh, Joshua, Thomas, Taran impressed the audience with their instrumental performances and the whole of Year 6 sang ‘The Leavers’ Song’ which prompted a few early tears from some parents.  Mr Lyttle, Governors and our Guest of Honour made a dramatic entrance to the Lady Gaga song ‘Hold My Hand’, a metaphor for Mr Lyttle’s address about resilience and being able to always ask for help, should you need it.

The many prizes and trophies were then presented by ex-West House boy, Howard Hodgson. Mr Hodgson delivered a moving speech about his memories of West House School. He spoke eloquently about it being one of the most happiest times of his life and how the life-skills he learned here have stood him in good stead throughout his life.

The highlight of the evening, as ever, was the Head Boy’s speech and Roman did not disappoint. There were tears, laughter and more tears. Roman’s poised delivery belied his tender age and he should be extremely proud of himself.

The formal ceremony over, parents and boys took the opportunity for photos and a final “goodbye” before heading off, their leavers hoodies and prize certificates in hand
