West House School, officially excellent!

We are delighted to share with the wider West House community the feedback following our recent visit by the Independent Schools Inspectorate.

All departments of the school were inspected during the Spring Term. The inspection also focused on the regulations that need to be met by all independent schools.

The full report has been circulated to all our current parents and will soon be available on the ISI website but the main findings were that the quality of the pupils’ academic and other achievements is excellent and the quality of the pupils’ personally development is excellent.

While Headmaster, Mr Alistair Lyttle, was confident that West House would receive a headline judgement of ‘excellent’, he and the board of Governors are none the less delighted with the full findings of the report. Mr Lyttle comments, “We were thrilled that the inspection team captured the spirit and the ethos of West House. Our children are clearly making the most of the opportunities available and enjoying school life.”

The Board of Governors were particularly pleased that the inspection picked up on the fact that, “Pupils demonstrate excellent levels of self confidence and resilience, confirming the school’s success in achieving its aim to foster the development of the whole child.”

Staff were collectively praised in the report for the “excellent attitude that the pupils have to their learning, fully reflecting the school motto, which encouraged them to work hard but don’t forget to have fun.”

Mr Lyttle adds that, “It is rare indeed that words such as exceptional are used in such reports and it is clear that West House School can proudly occupy a place at the top table of independent preparatory school education.”

He encourages everyone to read the full report and thanks all the pupils, “in particular the senior boys who made an outstanding impression on the inspection team. They are true ambassadors of The West House Way.”
