Wet, Weird and Wonderful!

Year 2 boys had a great time at the Sealife Centre on Tuesday. They enjoyed loads of different things including:

• the piranha tunnel,
• the black-tipped reef shark,
• the otters,
• the giant sea turtle,
• the clownfish, and
• jellyfish.

The day started with the boys walking to the Sealife Centre along the Canal. This was a brand new experience, which some of the boys found scary being so close to the water, but they were super sensible and enjoyed the walk. “It was quite nice, walking in the sun, which was shining brightly,” said Leo from 2P. We took in a bit of local history, when the old hooks in the wall from the Daventry’s factory was pointed out by Mr Philp.

Once we arrived at the Sealife Centre, we saw Atlantic Sea Nettles (a type of jellyfish) and then went down through the main feature tunnel with the Giant Sea Turtle and the sharks. The small tunnel under the clownfish was also very impressive.

The boys enjoyed a couple of workshops, one about the different layers of the ocean and how they provide different habitats, and the other about being Sea Defenders and recycling properly so that the oceans are not polluted.

One of the highlights was lunch – there is always something special about sitting together in an unfamiliar place and enjoying the carefully prepared food your parents have made for you! Another highlight was seeing the ‘Dory’ fish that is actually called a ‘Regal Tang’, seemingly named after Year 2 teacher, Mr Regall! The boys really enjoyed touching the starfish, which they did very gently and were amazed by how it felt. They also really enjoyed the minibuses turning up at the end so they didn’t have to walk home!
