Year 2 Visit to the Safari Park
Can we bear it?
Year 2 boys had a great time visiting the West Midlands Safari Park on Wednesday. Fortunately the bear pictured was a model of one from the ice age – and definitely not the scariest thing in the picture either (as Mr Philp was also present!)
The visit began with the coach tour around the park. West Midlands Safari Park hosts four of the ‘Big Five’ and countless other interesting creatures too. The boys loved seeing the animals walking by the coach, with the giraffes being a particular favourite. Once the coach tour was over, the boys dived into their packed lunches (for many, the best part of any trip) and then they headed into the Discovery Area.
The bat cave was a particular highlight. While several groups of teenagers from other schools came and went screaming in the dark, West House Boys stood fearlessly and respectfully while the bats flitted by, letting their eyes become slowly accustomed to the light, and then took a few moments to observe the silent beauty of these nocturnal mammals. The teachers were most impressed by the maturity of their behaviour!.
A guided tour of the Dinosaur area by the Safari Park’s own Dinosaur Rangers was next, bringing thoughts of Jurassic Park movies to mind. The T Rex’s roar was really quite something – we’re not sure about the teeth of a Hydra, but each of its canines was as big as a banana!
The visit concluded with small groups choosing some favourites to go to. Some choose water rides. Others chose to visit the lemurs and still more opted for many a small boy’s favourite choice: the Gift Shop.
All in all, it was a brilliant day out and everyone agreed they would love to go back.
