Frank Nigel Jones (1948)

Nigel attended West House and Malvern College, as the eldest of four brothers and with four Hewitson cousins who similarly benefitted from their times at the both schools. He was Head Boy at West House where Headmaster D.T. Carey Field described Nigel in his final report as “Tremendously keen and a delightful person to know” – characteristics that his many friend and colleagues would recognise. Nigel was an academic prize and Pound Cup holder, winning his colours at football, cricket and hockey. He remained an active participant in the latter two sports throughout his adult life.

Born and raised in Harborne, National Service was served afloat in fishery and anti-submarine protections.

Nigel had studies estate management and subsequently joined Jones, Son and Vernon in Oldbury and Smethwick as a fourth-generation Chartered Auctioneer, Surveyor and Estate Agent in the family firm.

In his middle years Nigel moved to Alfrick, Worcestershire and latterly to Cradley, Herefordshire. In a more rural context and in contrast to the Black Country that he had left. Nigel reinvented himself as a qualified groundsman with a particular interest in cricket pitch management.

Nigel attended West House reunions and events when he could.

Nigel passed away peacefully at the age of 85 on the 13th February 2021 and is sadly missed by his two daughters, Melanie and Lisa, grandson Joshua, stepson Jonathan, ex-wife Christine and his younger siblings Ian, Anthony and Nick, all of whom survive him.
