West House loves to read and this week, the whole school had books in hand to support the National Year of Reading 2026 campaign and celebrate World Book Day.
This year, Mrs Parker led the World Book Day celebrations with a key focus on modelling the enjoyment of a variety of texts and embracing one book in particular as a whole school community – The Barnabus Project.
Each year group across the wider school read this stunning picture book during their English lessons this week and Barnabus-themed activities were enjoyed by all the boys! The links between writing skills, artistic flare and the West House Way were prevalent throughout the English lessons this week. In fact, at the end of an exciting week, Barnabus himself won a West House Way award!
World Book Day was celebrated on Thursday 5th March this year and, once again, the boys wore superb costumes to help promote their favourite book characters and spread the joy of reading!
From Willy Wonka to Where’s Wally, the amazing costumes, memorable assemblies and of course, introducing our new best friend; half-mouse and half-elephant, Barnabus, all contributed to a wonderful week celebrating all our favourite book characters!
