On Thursday 5th February, we went to Stratford-upon-Avon for a residential trip. We woke up quite early and I felt so excited. I got ready in my home clothes before leaving home. It was dark and the roads were quiet. When we got to school, we placed our bags and suitcases in the Art Room. We loaded our stuff onto the coach before getting on and leaving for Stratford.
When we arrived, we weren’t sure if it was the correct place because the building looked eerie and mysterious but as soon as we took one step inside we were amazed! It looked incredible! We left our bags in a room on the side before playing card games until everyone had finished their snacks. Afterwards, we got back on the coach and went to The Butterfly Farm.
We went into the flight area which was where all the beautiful butterflies were, but it wasn’t just butterflies there… There were also a duo of harmless iguanas that were covered in scales blending from green to red and were roaming free in the space where we were walking. When we got to the end, we saw loads of miniature invertebrates and scaly reptiles, we even saw an orange tarantula and a statue-still crocodile, ignoring it’s snack and looking right at us! We got to hold a thin stick insect before moving back to where we started. We ate our packed lunch before a short walk to the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC).
At the RSC, we watched The BFG, which stands for Big Friendly Giant. We had really good seats. At the interval, everyone got a tub of yummy ice cream! After we watched the second half, we walked back to The Butterfly Farm where Mr Lyttle picked us up in the minibus and took us back to where we were staying.
We played some more games before having a scrumptious dinner and sweet waffles for desert. After dinner, we did a challenging quiz which Mr Lyttle Jnr had prepared before having the choice of bingo, playing in the games room or watching the first match of the Six Nations Championships! In the games room, there was table tennis, pool and table football. After an enjoyable evening, we went back to our rooms and got ready for bed – but first we all explored dormitories, debating who slept on the top bunk of each bed. We eventually drifted off to sleep, before rising early the next day.
We went downstairs after getting ready and had a delicious full English breakfast with pastries! We had a relaxing morning with free time to play games. After a lunch of sandwiches, we took part in a drama workshop all about Shakespeare and his plays, before loading all our bags onto the coach. We made our way to Shakespeare’s Birthplace – an old timbered house with low ceilings, tiny doors and steep steps. we then briefly visited the gift and fudge shops across the road. We then boarded the coach and sadly went home. We were all tired but had enjoyed the trip thoroughly. We arrived back just in time for the end of the school day.
