Speech Night 2024

On Thursday 27th June, we held our annual Speech and Prize Giving Night to celebrate the outstanding achievements made by the boys this academic year. For Year 6, this is a memorable moment in their West House journey where fellow pupils, parents, teachers and governors gather together in celebrating a successful year at West House and the considerable accomplishments of the senior boys (as well as some younger members of our community!).

This year, the Guest of Honour was our outgoing Chair of Governors and Old Boy of the school, Mr James Gittins, who presented the boys with various awards and prizes. Mr Gittins regaled those present with stories of what life at West House was like in his day and the fond memories he has of our school. In West House tradition, the Head Boy would take to the stage and deliver a heart-warming speech which would capture the attention of all present. Jeevan B was a remarkable example of ‘The West House Way’ and wonderfully thanked members of staff, pupils and those who have supported him on his fantastic West House journey. Well done to Mr Lyttle, Mr Gittins and Jeevan for three heartening speeches which truly captured the West House spirit and family atmosphere the school has to offer.

Speech Night was an opportunity for the school to say two important farewells. The first farewell is to Mrs Vicki Denham and the evening allowed the West House family to thank her for 32 years of loyal service as she heads towards retirement. Apparently, while England were playing a less than dazzling game of football earlier in the week, Mrs Denham spent the time calculating that she has taught over 20,000 maths lessons at the school. Mrs Denham will be remembered as an inspiring, dedicated and passionate teacher who will be missed by all of West House School.

The second farewell is to our Year 6 Leavers. Whether they started the journey in Nursery or joined the school at a later date, each and every member of this Year 6 cohort have been tremendous value to the school and we truly wish them all the best on their future endeavours. We hope you have made incredible memories at West House which you will cherish as you move onto the next step of your exciting journeys! As Mr Lyttle’s walk-on music will suggest, ‘You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet!’
