West House at Winterfold Football Tournament

On a cold day in a very chilly January, the U11 football team travelled to Winterfold to compete against other Prep schools in an exciting, competitive tournament.

In our league, West House were to play six opponents: The Downs Malvern, Beaudesert Park School, Wolverhampton Grammar School, Warwick School, Hereford Cathedral School and RGS The Grange.

Match 1 – West House 2 – 0 Malvern Downs
Match 2 – West House 0 – 0 Beaudesert Park
Match 3 – West House 1 – 1 Wolverhampton Grammar
In tough conditions, the boys showed a fantastic team spirit and great resilience under the
captaincy of Eisa picking up vital points in a very tight league where every point mattered!
Match 4 – West House 2 – 1 Warwick
Match 5 – West House 0 – 0 Hereford
Match 6 – West House 1 – 1 RGS The Grange

After some strong performances and a whole host of chances, West House finished the league undefeated and our opponents at the semi-final stage were King’s Hawford. In yet another tense and competitive match, it seemed like only one moment of quality from either side would settle this fixture and that moment fell to King’s Hawford who by the bearest of all margins narrowly defeated our U11 team. The final score was 1-0.

We wanted to hear from the boys about their views and feelings about the tournament so we asked Monty from Year 6 to interview the team to get their reactions.

A fun and entertaining day. It was a great team spirit and warmer than I expected. I was very proud of my fellow teammates we made little mistakes but what mattered is we tried our best!

Thomas

We passed really well and didn’t concede many goals.

Jaidev

Otis reported that he enjoyed the food. When asked in one sentence, to describe the day this is what the boys said:-

Jaidev: “Marvellous and challenging”.
Otis: “Really fun but nerve-racking”.
Ali-Aoun: “Enjoyed playing with my peers”.
Eshan: “Really good passing and great movements”.

Well done to the U11 team and a big thank you to Mr Denham and Mr Sajjad for ensuring a fun, enjoyable day full of different emotions for the boys! Time to get back into the warm!
