U11 RUGBY V HALLFIELD
Wednesday 31st January 2024

A Team
Hallfield 3 – 8 West House
B Team
Hallfield 11 – 10 West House
C Team
Hallfield 8 – 9 West House
D Team
Hallfield 11 – 11 West House

After several fine displays on the football pitch, it was time for the U11s to
take to the rugby field in four matches against Hallfield School – and what
a show the boys put on for the travelling support! Mr Denham was full of
praise for the A team for their commitment to the contact part of the
game and their positive attitude when attacking forward. Otis was
exceptional in making unbelievable, hard-hitting tackles, with great
support from Omar, and Ali-Aoun was determined to run hard at the
Hallfield defence with power, pace and aggression. An authoritative
performance from the A team. Well done boys!
There was huge excitement and drama in both the B and C team matches
with a single try separating the two teams – one in favour of West House
and one so agonisingly close! Great use of the wide areas and persistent
pressure saw two nail-biting finishes and high scoring games!
AND WE HAVE OUR FIRST TIE OF THE SEASON!! What a game in the D
team fixture and a notable mention to Dakshvir who ran very well with
the ball, kept the try tally going and gave 100% effort which was highly
appreciated by Mr Clifford. There is no doubt that the supporters from
both schools were royally entertained by all four fixtures which brought
warmth and enjoyment to a cold Wednesday afternoon!

U10 RUGBY V HALLFIELD
Monday 29th January 2024

A Team
Hallfield 12 – 8 West House
B Team
Hallfield 2 – 13 West House
C Team
Hallfield 4 – 15 West House
D Team
Hallfield 8 – 6 West House

On Monday, the U10 A-D teams made the short journey down to
Hallfield School to play their first rugby fixtures of the academic year.
With low temperatures and frozen pitches, there was limited time to
prepare the boys for full contact rugby and yet the boys in the A Team
showed huge resilience and fantastic support play throughout both
halves narrowly losing to a well-drilled Hallfield outfit. Player of the
Match was Rui who was described by Mr Williamson as, “fearless when
tackling and made an impact on the game”.
Some superb forward running and an organised defensive unit saw
both the B and C Teams score a flurry of tries at the one end whilst
limiting the tries for Hallfield at the other. Special mentions in the B
Team go to Raees for his brave tackling and Jayden for showcasing
his powerful running. Captain Cayleb ensured a comfortable victory
for the C Team and Kunal demonstrated great handling skills when
receiving and passing the ball. Just across the field, a thrilling
encounter was witnessed by a small crowd of parents in the D team
fixture. Another try fest which saw plenty of action at both ends of the
pitch and some quick tagging skills from West House impressed the
Hallfield referee. A great day for the U10s!

U9 RUGBY V HALLFIELD
Tuesday 30th January 2024

A Team
Hallfield 7 – 13 West House
B Team
Hallfield 11 – 3 West House
C Team
Hallfield 13 – 9 West House
D Team
Hallfield 7 – 5 West House

For many of the boys in the A and B teams, it was their first competitive
match of contact rugby which is a big step in their development and
knowledge of the game. A fine display of attacking prowess from the A
team, with Tamu proving a vital outlet in breaking through the Hallfield
defence, saw West House hit double figures of tries scored to the seven of
Hallfield. Mr Sajjad wanted to give a special mention to Uche who was
impressive and robust when it came to his tackling. A great result!
The West House B Team can take valuable lessons from their first match of
the term. Perhaps the moment of the match fell to Sarim who entered
from stage left and made a crunching, try saving tackle on the Hallfield
attacker when he was meant to be on the other pitch – a shame it wasn’t
caught on camera but nonetheless a memorable moment for Sarim, the
Hallfield attacker and the referee, Mr Williamson!
It was amazing to see how well the C and D teams adapted to Tag Rugby
after many months away from the game and both teams demonstrated
terrific handling skills with a great vision for the tryline. Individual
mentions go to Aaron for looking a dangerous player throughout the
match and Will for making his debut for West House School! It was a day
of experience and the boys can hold their heads up high after giving
everything on the pitch!

U8 RUGBY V HALLFIELD
Thursday 1st February 2024

A Team
Hallfield 15 – 12 West House
B Team
Hallfield 11 – 8 West House
C Team
Hallfield 8 – 7 West House
D Team
Hallfield 10 – 14 West House

The start of February brought the end to a fantastic rugby extravaganza
at Hallfield School this week and, after eagerly waiting all week, the time
finally arrived for the U8 squad to play their first ever rugby match for
West House – a moment that hopefully the boys will remember for a very
long time. All four fixtures were Tag Rugby and this was new territory for
many of our players so it was amazing to see how quickly all the teams
adapted to a different and exciting format! Oliver was a fine leader for
the A team. He was almost unstoppable when running into the attacking
space and from start to finish demonstrated one key aspect of the West
House Way – work hard but don’t forget to have fun.
The B and C team matches were evenly balanced and won by very small
margins. Watching the boys really focus on passing the ball backwards,
having a target ready to receive the ball and working hard in their
tagging skills holds them in great shape for future matches against other
schools. A massive shoutout to Nathan – the try machine – who helped
guide the D team to an unforgettable result and start what could be a
long, winning streak for the mighty U8 D team… only time will tell! Well
done to all the boys in the U8 squad and thank you to Hallfield for hosting
us this week – a total of 292 tries scored (West House 151 – 141 Hallfield)
Rugby is the winner.
