West House Shows England The Way!

On Thursday 17th June the Under 11 football team took part in the annual F & C Football Challenge, organised in liaison with Birmingham City Football Club. The tournament was hosted at the club's Wast Hills training ground and involved twelve teams from across the Midlands.
With the focus of the summer term being very much on cricket, the West House team emulated the national side in taking a couple of matches to get into their stride. However, draws against Woodhouse School and Hatchford Primary were followed by a resounding 3 – 0 victory over St Edward’s, goals coming courtesy of Samraaj Hullait, Oliver Lawrence and William Jebson. This ensured progression to the quarter finals where a victory over Kings Heath Primary set up a semi – final showdown with Heathland School. In what proved to be a tight contest, matters were ultimately decided by a fine solo effort from Oliver Lawrence.
The tournament final saw the only two undefeated sides come head to head in what turned out to be a fitting end to the day. The opposition, in the form of Chilcote School, had breezed through their group and made light work of games in the knock out stages. However, an early long range effort fromAndreas Kavalieros put West House 1 – 0 up and Hullait added a timely second just before half time.
After the break, Chilcote responded with a goal of their own, before Oliver Lawrence put the victory beyond doubt. The final whistle sparked great celebrations which continued later in the day when the team attended an awards ceremony at St. Andrew's.
