The Rocky Monster Show

The Rocky Monster Show

This year’s production saw boys in Year 6 getting their teeth into ‘The Rocky Monster Show’. Set in the rural backwater of Arkham, this eerie tale tracks the unnatural scientific meddling of former 60s pop icon Rocky Fenton. Badly injured in an accident, Fenton discovers that he is descended from none other than Baron Frankenstein and becomes determined to continue his ancestor’s work.

With the ever loyal Igor at his side, and under the supervision of the quietly sinister housekeeper Mrs. Danvers and his daughter Gloria, Fenton discovers the secret of modifying genetics. He involves fledgling scientists Daniel Stoker and Rebecca Shelley in his research and ultimately creates a ‘Supergroup’, bearing a remarkable resemblance to the Supremes.

A concert designed to win over the simple folk of Arkham follows, with the climax being a star appearance by Elvis! However, things start to go wrong when a storm gathers in intensity, leaving Elvis and his backing singers in a state of flux between this world and the next. As the villagers flee, Fenton’s castle is destroyed in a fire, with only Daniel, Rebecca and Mrs. Danvers surviving. However, something strange has happened to Mrs. Danvers after being bitten by a mysterious animal during the pandemonium...

Performed over two nights, The Rocky Monster Show was a huge hit with both boys and parents. Built around a host of incredibly catchy tunes, the plot was enhanced by a number of witty exchanges between characters. Johannes Cross-Warren played a highly convincing Rocky Fenton winning over the audience with his charm and empathy for the character.

Other notable performances came from Oliver Gittoes as the man-mad Gloria Fenton and Oscar Lyttle as Mrs. Danvers. While Sarna Sharma, Kouros Shoja-Assadi, Ajaipal Bhatti and Jorde Kang also put on fine displays of acting, it was George Davies who stole the show as the decrepit butler, Igor.
