Digging Up The Past

History Week

History Week was again a huge success, with pupils from across the school given the opportunity to explore the past. Miss Houghton encouraged boys from Reception to Year 5 to immerse themselves in different timelines to begin their voyage of discovery.

Everyone then got the chance to dig up artefacts from the Tudor, Roman and Victorian periods – surprisingly all found in our very own Nature Reserve! Among the numerous discoveries were vases, wooden toys and glass bottles.

The younger boys also got the chance to match up old objects with their modern equivalents, leading to an interesting comparison between an ancient iron and the popular fizzy drink, ‘Irn Bru’!

Finally, at the end of a long day, Ms Houghton had no choice but to let the boys play with some Victorian games. Archboard, quoits and marbles all proved popular, but it was the cup and ball game which was by far the most challenging. Year 6 helper, Umar Saeed, commented that the day was all about being ‘out with the new and in with the old’!

"Pupils are receiving an education which goes well beyond the academic curriculum and successfully prepares them for their senior schools"
