In 2008 work began on developing an area of the school grounds into a nature reserve, allowing pupils of all ages the opportunity to explore the local environment. The project was supported by the Parents’ Association who have to date contributed £8000 towards the overall costs. The reserve was originally designed by the Wildlife Trust and officially opened in 2010.
Further development is planned for 2012 – 2013, to include an area of meadowland, a herb garden and a programme of activities that link in more closely with the school curriculum. It is now home to a thriving wildlife community which can be captured on webcams available to view via this website. It is also home to a wide variety of freshwater fish, small domestic animals and a variety of home grown vegetables.
