extra

Pupils of all ages benefit from a rich array of extra – curricular activities designed to appeal to every interest. By the time pupils have reached Year 3 the vast majority are involved in additional musical, creative or sporting activities.

In the Prep-Prep Department boys in Years 1 and 2 can opt to take part in cookery, art and board-games clubs, organised and supervised by the teaching staff. In addition, many chose to join football training sessions, organised by a team of coaches from Aston Villa FC and undertaken at the school.

As the boys move into the Prep Department after-school clubs in chess and drama are added to the list of options, with places allocated on a first-comers basis. The sporting provision is also extended to include clubs in badminton, table tennis, basketball, rugby and fitness. The school enjoys a close relationship with Harborne Golf Club and opportunities exist throughout the year for pupils to benefit from professional golf coaching.

Various bands rehearse during the school day and allow even the least experienced musicians the opportunity to contribute to a group. Brass, woodwind, guitar and string groups perform at concerts throughout the year and the most senior musicians join the school orchestra which rehearses on Friday afternoons.

Senior boys regularly organise break-time quizzes which are open to everyone in Years 3 to 6. The school quiz teams enter a number of competitions throughout the academic year, frequently enjoying significant success.
