Aims To show that foods are grouped according to what they contain To demonstrate the importance of a balanced diet To consider the varied diets of animals To establish the importance of taking good care of teeth and gums To investigate the effects of staining and to test various cleaning agents
Learning Objectives To recognise that each food type does a different job in the body To appreciate that people have different dietary requirements according to their age and lifestyle To understand the words carnivore herbivore and omnivore and how the teeth of animals have adapted to their diet To understand the function of the different types of teeth and how important it is to take good care of them To realise the harm that foods can do to teeth and to appreciate the importance of good cleaning

Delivery Teacher introduces food types and the job they do in the body.  Pupils sort packaging according to food type Pupils discuss features of a balanced diet.  Pupils design a menu for a Healthy Party Pupils classify animals according to diet: pie chart.  Look at skulls and identify diet according to types of teeth Pupils look at own teeth and identify different types.  Teacher demonstrates effect of decay Pupils plan an experiment to test effectiveness of various toothpastes

Aims To understand the concepts of light and dark To understand that shadows are formed when an object blocks out the light To understand that shadows appear to change shape due to the movement of the Earth To see how big and small shadows are created To investigate which materials block light most effectively
Learning Objectives To understand that light is needed in order to see and that there are many different light sources To understand that light travels in straight lines and the sun is the largest light source To know that shadows change direction and size during the day To understand that big shadows are formed when the light source is close to the object To understand that the amount of light passing through materials can differ according to the properties of the material
