Pupils can recall the names and locations of the oceans and continents of the world.
Use a globe or map of the world to identify major land masses, emphasising the fact that these are not necessarily countries but consist of countries.

Read Our World sheet to provide a brief history of the movements of the continents.

Ask pupils if they can identify any of the modern continents in the diagrams on the information sheet.

Introduce names of oceans of the world in relation to continents.

Pupils can recall the names and locations of the oceans and continents of the world.

Pupils can extract information from an atlas.
Conclude work on continents with an exercise on recognizing each continent from its shape. Pupils cut out each shape, stick in book and correctly label.

Recap on oceans and introduce seas via the completion of Oceans and Seas worksheet.

With the use of an atlas pupils work in pairs to correct the Map of Errors.
