First Half Term

Celebrations

3 x 40 minute lessons   Cross-Curricular: Art, ICT, English
Learning Outcomes Teaching Ideas and Learning Context ICT/Whiteboard Resources
Level 1:Will be able to identify types of celebrations and say a little about what people do to celebrate.
Level 2: Will be able to say why and how people celebrate.  Recognise a difference between religious and other celebrations/remembrance.
Level 3:  Explain how people might feel at a religious celebration or a secular one.  Be able to say why celebrations matter.   Recognise that religious teachings make a difference to people.
 
Week 1:Discuss celebrations and how we celebrate events and what events we have celebrated in the past.  Discuss the  Muslim festival of Ramadan.  Discuss fasting – read ch. book about Islam. Discuss objects associated, Koran, prayer mat, mosque. Ch. Colour prayer mat sheets.
Week 2:Ch. Write about Ramadan and fill in on worksheet the features of a mosque.  Make a fanoo lamp if have time.
Week 3:  Discuss how food is used to celebrate.  List all the types of special foods we have for celebrations.  Write about our favourite celebration and what we did/do.
