First Half Term

Famous People In History


6 x 80minute lessons   Cross-Curricular: Art, ICT, English
Learning Outcomes Teaching Ideas and Learning Context ICT/Whiteboard Resources
Level 1:Will be able to say what being famous means.
Level 2: Will be able to name one or two people we have studied and say why they are famous.
Level 3Will be able to name all the famous people we have studied and say why they are famous.
Level 4:Identify why the people studied were famous and say in detail what they did in their lives and why we think they should be remembered.
Week 1:Discuss word famous.  Name some famous people we know and why they are famous.  Can they name anyone from the past who is famous.  Look at some pictures – how do we know if the people are from the past? Write about a famous person class agree on. 
Week 2:  Look at timeline and identify when Boudicca lived.  Discuss what Boudicca did and how she was brave.  Write and draw about her story.
Week 3:  Queen Elizabeth I.  Read about her life and look at pictures.  Discuss how she encouraged travel and exploration for the benefit of the country. Look closely at her gown, jewellery and objects around her on her paintings.  Draw her from the famous picture in the National Portrait Gallery. 
Week 4:  Watch Florence Nightingale Video.  In small groups boys write 3 ways she improved conditions for patients and 3 for soldiers. 
Week 5:   Watch clips of Princess Diana.  Discuss her life; married Prince Charles, had William and Harry, worked for charities and her country.  Discuss how she died – not wearing a seatbelt and discuss how the country felt at the time.  Create a poster encouraging people to wear seat belts.
Week 6: Teacher produced assessment test.
