Level 1: Name city in which they live and identify it on a map of UK. Name some physical and human features of the locality. Week 1: Recap previous work. Look at map and identify England, Scotland, Wales and N.Ireland. Discuss some seaside places ch. have visited. Children have map of UK, colour, label and name 4 countries and capital cities. Identify Birmingham. Colour blue round the coast. Week 2: Discuss the terms city and countryside, introduce the term seaside/coast. Discuss differences between city and seaside. Draw two pictures one of each locality. Write about how they differ. Week 3: Look at natural and human features of the seaside and draw/write about them. Look at Coxhoe differences at the seaside site. Identify buildings only found at the seaside. (huts/pier, etc) Week 4: Discuss flotsam and jetsam. Discuss recycling and how rubbish ruins our coastline and endgangers animals. Week 5: Make a poster to encourage visitors to your seaside town. Discuss how people could travel there. Week 6: Teacher produced assessment test. State likes and dislikes about seaside areas. Say how they could encourage visitors today. What facilities would you like to experience. |
