Science
Science is taught to all pupils throughout the school.
The aims of the department are
- To provide a rich and stimulating scientific experience, which will foster fascination and interest in the subject.
- To present Science as an essentially practical experience, largely based on first-hand experiences in relevant contexts.
- To develop investigative approaches to scientific enquiry which build confidence in tackling problems with increasing levels of independence.
- To encourage discussion of ideas, and the abilities to question and justify.
- To support a sense of scientific curiosity and the development of appropriate levels of knowledge and understanding.
In Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 one session is timetabled each week.
In Years 3, 4 and 5 pupils have 1 double lesson [80 minutes] each week and in Year 6 pupils have 2 double lessons [160 minutes] each week.
The School bases its scientific scheme on the Collins “Science Directions” although a variety of other resources are used. All classes have access to Interactive Whiteboards and Computers as required. Pupils are not set for this Subject but are taught in class groups.
