Performing Arts

Pupils at the school are introduced to drama from their earliest years. They are presented with a variety of characters and situations to explore and they are encouraged to develop their imaginations and learn performance skills.

Drama is embraced throughout the curriculum, with activities ranging from role play areas in Reception and Nursery classrooms to full-scale school productions for senior boys.

In Pre-Prep and Nursery, children experience drama through engaging in:-
  • Circle time and PSHE sessions
  • Summer and Christmas concerts and productions
  • Visits and workshops by travelling production companies such as The Kinetic Theatre for Science
  • Role play areas with costumes and props for imaginative play activities
  • Role play activities undertaken within the wider curriculum
  • Animal theatre visits
In the Prep Department, boys are increasingly encouraged to perform in public. Activities include:-
  • A house public speaking competition
  • After school drama club
  • District drama lessons taught as part of the English curriculum
  • Year 5 and 6 production – a full scale musical involving all pupils. Recent productions have included Bugsy Malone, Joseph and The Technicolour Dreamcoat and Treasure Island
