Outdoor Education
The school is set in five acres of wooded grounds that enrich the educational provision. From the earliest years in Nursery, pupils have the opportunity to take part in nature walks and explore all that the site has to offer. The West House Nature Reserve contributes greatly to the wider curriculum and allows pupils to discover and analyse different aspects of pond life and the woodland ecosystem.
Pupils grow their own plants and vegetables in raised growing beds that form part of the nature reserve. In addition to this, the history curriculum is supported by an archaeological excavation site and a Tudor style herb garden.
Two outdoor classrooms ensure that the very most can be made of summer days and staff at all levels of the school are encouraged to give pupils the chance to learn in an outdoor environment. A part time member of staff is employed specifically to oversee the areas of the school grounds that lend themselves to these learning opportunities.
