Nursery Curriculum
The Nursery Curriculum is built around the Birth to Three Framework and provides high quality learning experiences for all children. The Nursery and Kindergarten curriculum comprises a number of key aims:
- To build relationships with adults and peers.
- To learn to socialise and share.
- To encourage greater independence.
- To learn through play.
- To develop speaking and listening skills.
- To improve gross and fine motor skills.
- To improve concentration.
- Above all – to have fun and to be happy.
Parents are encouraged from the outset to support and enhance the development of children. West House Nursery endeavours to form effective and meaningful partnerships with parents to ensure children’s successful learning. The process is initiated before children join the Nursery with parents being invited to bring their children to at least one ‘taster’ session, during which children can play and parents can observe and ask questions of the staff.
After children have started at West House Nursery the partnership is developed further through daily contact. Staff are available at the start and end of each day on an informal basis and parents are encouraged to collect children from the classroom.
Two formal Parents’ Evenings are held during the year and written reports are forwarded on three occasions – at the end of each school term.
