  • Activities in which they investigate, disassemble and evaluate simple product
  • Computer Aided Design (CAD)
The nature of design and technology:

Throughout Prep and Pre-Prep, time is divided between working with resistant materials, textiles and food technology. Curriculum time varies from 40 minutes to 80 minutes per week according to Year Group. In Years 5 and 6, Design and Technology is delivered via Maths, Science, ICT and Art and Design.

The Design and Technology curriculum aims to support the growth of the individual and draws on a diverse range of skills facilitating cross-curricular links.

Design and Technology activities provide opportunities for children to be creative, innovative and to draw upon their own experiences. It enables them to make their own decisions, to solve problems and to explore the properties and uses of materials. It also provides opportunities to develop social skills through co-operative learning by developing pupils' interest and enthusiasm.

The subject offers the possibility of great emotional satisfaction and a sense of personal achievement. It promotes confidence, self esteem and a positive 'can do' attitude.

Design and Technology is fundamentally about pupils being able to enjoy a personal experience of designing and making products which can be tested in their use and effectiveness.
