Curriculum Overview
West House School prides itself on the provision of a unique educational experience. It has an individual identity that combines traditional values with innovation and vibrant vision. The school is committed to developing all pupils in terms of offering them the best start to their formal education and preparing them for what lies beyond. The curriculum is designed to deliver an education that is rich in opportunities and encourages pupils to develop a life long love of learning.
The school and nursery follow the central elements of the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum and the National Curriculum. However, an enormous number of additional opportunities are made available to ensure that all pupils are given the chance to develop their knowledge, skills and attributes. To that end, a significant amount of curriculum time is dedicated to creative, cultural and sporting activities.
The West House curriculum is carefully monitored by Heads of Department and is constantly evolving to ensure that the school and nursery responds to the demands that will be placed on individuals living as successful citizens in the 21st century.
The School’s organisation is based on the Key Stages of the National Curriculum as follows:
The majority of pupils enter the first year of the Foundation Stage (Pre-School) from within the school’s nursery, where they will have already experienced some aspects of the Foundation Stage curriculum.
