Pastoral Care

West House enjoys an outstanding reputation for the pastoral care of pupils which contributes greatly to the unique family atmosphere of which the school is so proud.

An overriding aim is to ensure that pupils develop a love of learning and a love of school life. Taking care of a pupil’s personal, social and emotional wellbeing is of paramount importance on the road to success and from the earliest years, children have an identified adult to whom they can address their concerns, worries or questions. In the Early Years Foundation Stage, this is generally the Key Worker, though all staff will develop positive relationships with the children and play an important role in identifying any issues that may arise.

From Reception, the boys have a Form Teacher who is responsible for addressing every day needs. The Form Teacher also delivers the PSHE lessons and will naturally discuss issues of wellbeing as they arise. Parents are encouraged to contact the Form Teacher should they have any concerns and often, this can be arranged without appointment either first thing in the morning or at the end of the school day.

The size of the school is one of its strengths. With 250 pupils aged between 1 and 11, members of the Senior Management Team are involved at all levels. Pupils develop an awareness of the fact that they can always approach the Head of Pre-Prep and Nursery, the Deputy Head or the Headmaster for a quiet word and will always be offered a sympathetic ear.
